Quick Trip to Cali

My grandma's health has been declining for about 5 years. Well, ever since Christmas she has been getting worse and worse. She was admitted to the hospital last week and when she was released, her doctor said she will probably only be around for the next couple of weeks tops.

My sister Sarah and I planned on leaving Thursday afternoon and drive through the night to spend time with Grams for the weekend. Plans ended up falling through and we talked about going the following weekend. My grandma passed away that night. Sarah and I would have missed seeing her and also missed the funeral because Sarah needed to be back for work and school.

This past Sunday after church, Lucy an I hopped in the car and started our first road trip with just the two of us! I was nervous, but she was a champ and was a great road trip buddy. Monday I was able to help my mom prepare the last minute things for the service, Tuesday was the service and we left Wednesday afternoon. It was a quick trip filled with lots of family and friends reminiscing of funny stories that my grandma use to tell.

Some of my favorite stories from my grandma:
- we would call her "sick" from school and tell her our mom wasn't home so we could go to lunch and watch soaps with her
-playing rummikub and skip-bo
-if she wasn't home she was either with her friends at McDonalds (breakfast and coffee) or Burger King (senior discount Whoppers)
-baking an overwhelming amount of Christmas cookies and treats
-her pets were always named after alcoholic beverages. I'm sure an influence from my grandpa
-she had the most amazing plum and almond trees. Always the best snacks

House Update #7

On our way to Highland, we stopped an walked through the house. It looks so good. I can't wait for a house! The stone on the front of the house will be done this week so no front pictures this time. I loved that we were able to walk an imagine us living there and where our furniture will go. If they stay on schedule, everything will be done in 5 to 6 weeks

Easter 2013

This year for Easter, we went to our good friend's house in Highland for an egg hunt and dinner. It was fun to get together with friends to celebrate Easter. Lucy still doesn't get what's going on, but she loved being passed around and having all the attention. I would have to walk around the house and listen for her little squeals or giggles to find her. Since I was still pretty sick on Easter, littles opened her basket Monday instead on Saturday (we want to start doing bunny Easter on Saturdays and resurrection Easter on Sundays).
